Greetings from the Future!

(New Zealand is 21 hours ahead of L.A. time, so if today is friday in LA, I've already had my friday and am experiencing saturday.... haha, sounds like something from LOST)

New Zealand is amazing. Even on the first day being here we've seen bits and pieces of its beauty. First off, I just want to say that the primary purpose of this blog is for me to journal about our travels through this country for school purposes. If you would like, you can follow our journey and get a glimpse of what it's like here on the other side of the world.

The plane ride was wonderful in comparison to my previous flights. I didn't even feel sick until the descent, thanks to a miracle called a scopolamine patch. I watched Star Trek and Wolverine on the plane, which were pretty good. Unfortunately I only got 2 hours of sleep. I woke up for good at 2:30 in the morning when they served breakfast. That was the start of the longest day I think I've ever experienced. We landed at 4:30, but it wasn't until 6 a.m. that we got out of the airport. It felt very strange driving on the left side of the road and the driver being in the right side of the car. There was a spectacular sunrise as we drive through Auckland city. I tried to take a few pictures, but they don't do the actual scene justice.
We got to the hotel, but it was too early and there were still people sleeping in our room, so we killed some time at the beach (two blocks away). It was a still as a lake, so I didn't get out my skimboard. Speaking of that, I had mixed emotions when I found my board bag in the baggage pickup. I was happy to see it there, but not very happy to find they punctured a hole in the board bag. Good thing we stuffed it with a ton of bubble wrap and packaging material. We went to a cafe for "breakfast", but I'd already been awake and eaten 7 hours before - it felt like lunch. Since New Zealand is known for its meats, I got bacon with french toast. It did not disappoint. We went swimming at the hotel pool until our room was ready. Then we flopped down and rested. I didn't get to sleep, so I just sat for hours on end zoned. Then my great uncle John popped in unexpectedly, and after some chatting, we followed him to his house, where a meal was being readied for us. There were second cousins, cousins once removed, great uncles and aunts, and other relations there waiting to meet us. They must have thought I was rude because I was so zoned. We didn't eventually get to bed until 2 a.m. L.A. time.

I'll be posting more about our trip as long as we have internet access, so check for more later! As they say in new zealand, "sweet as!"

Dang, it sure was a good idea to put it in bubble wrap. I would have exploded if I found out that my board bag was busted (try saying that ten times fast). I'm glad to hear about your trip and can't wait to see more pictures.
